We completely agree with the US Department of Labor when it says that medical transcription opportunities will see an increase in the near future. They say that the rate of growth in medical transcription jobs is faster than the average of other occupations. These projections suggest that the medical transcriptionist will continue to be in demand for a long time to come.

The ever-increasing population requires more healthcare documents to be created. Also, with the life-expectancy increasing for the average human being, more medical records need to created and maintained.

The reason the medical transcription profession came into being was that doctors did not have the time to create medical records and so they started recording medical information in the form of audio. The medical transcriptionist emerged and became quintessential to the smooth functioning of not only the healthcare industry, but also the insurance industry.

Technologies like the voice-recognition software became available and threatened to take over the job of the transcriptionist. Doctors, however, realized that using the voice-recognition software was too cumbersome and time-consuming. The software ended up annoying doctors, and surprisingly the one that was most medical transcriptionists’ fear became an aid in their work. Now it is being used to create the first draft of the medical record and then the draft is analyzed, edited, and modified by the transcriptionist.

The medical transcriptionist will be in demand til the time the world decides to do away with medical records. If you want to join this profession, take up a good medical transcription course today.
