Medical Transcription Trends

There are no formal prerequisites for becoming a medical transcriptionist. You need not worry about qualifications or experience for making a career as a medical transcriptionist. What you need, however, is an aptitude for the job. You can try your hand at medical transcription if you meet the following criteria:

• You are comfortable working with a word processor. You should be able to work with a computer comfortably well.
• You have a good typing speed. A medical transcriptionist’s job is not about typing out words. However, a reasonably good typing speed will help you meet deadlines.
• You have excellent command over the English language. You will need to make sentences clear, crisp, and concise. Every word in your transcript should sound right and make sense.
• You are comfortable working on your own. Being your own boss is one of the advantages of home-based medical transcription job. However, you should be disciplined enough to handle work on your own.
• You can spend long hours working. You may have to spend long hours listening to audios and typing out text. You should be able to handle big chunks of work.
• You are comfortable working with deadlines. You should be prepared to work under pressure.
• You are willing to learn new terms and technologies. A medical transcriptionist has to learn new medical terms everyday. Also, he/she needs to handle tools and technologies entering the medical transcription world.
• You can recognize words and sentences clearly from a verbal speech or conversation. You should possess good hearing skills.
