Medical Transcription is Not for Everyone

Published by manager at 7:37 am under medical transcription career

Critics of the medical transcription profession are often found ridiculing the profession, calling it a farce, comparing it to a typist’s job. The truth is that the profession is a specialized one. This is a profession that requires an aptitude and an in-depth medical knowledge. And not everyone can become a medical transcriptionist. Why?

  • Because not everyone can meet the stringent deadlines everyday or at the interval of few hours
  • Because not everyone can meet the high quality goals expected by the profession while chasing deadlines everyday
  • Because not everyone can understand how critical the medical transcriptionist’s work is
  • Because the profession expects you to work on your own and handle crisis situations independently
  • Because you have to constantly keep yourself motivated or else you will lose focus on the job
  • Because you are required to update your knowledge base everyday
  • Because not everyone can ensure security and confidentiality of medical data
  • Because not everyone is willing to spend time and effort on extensive research on work everyday

Medical transcription is tough. And not because of the nature of the work but because of the importance medical records hold in today’s world. The healthcare and insurance industries thrive on medical records.

The reason the profession is not for anyone and everyone is because not everyone can meet the expectations the profession has of them. Most people want to finish their part of a job and go home. They often don’t want to deal with something that holds them responsible. Medical transcription is a responsible job and definitely not for everyone.
