Find out if you fit in. Gauze your potential. Know where you stand in terms of the aptitude needed for the profession. Find out if you can handle the challenges of the job. Do not enter the profession thinking you can work it out without analyzing your potential. Remember, you need much more than good hearing skills and a good command over English to survive as a medical transcriptionist.

Join a good medical transcription course after you have figured out you have what it takes to join the profession. Compare different courses thoroughly before joining one. Make sure the completion of your course is followed by placement assistance.

Once you have completed your training, start applying for jobs. Don’t depend solely on the placement provided by the training center. Look out on your own. Start posting your CV on the websites of medical transcription companies. Make sure you understand the requirements of the job when you apply. Keep a track of all your applications. Even if you don’t get a certain job today, you may qualify for it a year or two later. You should know about all the companies in the business.

Getting a job is just the beginning of a medical transcription career. You will learn several things as you make your way inside the industry. If you are up for the challenges the profession throws at you, give it a shot.
